Emma Dixon

Emma was a student on the Wellcome Trust Structural Biology programme who had a keen interest in X-ray crystallography. During her DPhil she worked to characterise the p7 protein from Hepatitis C Virus using various methods. In addition, she worked collaboratively with Dr Max Crispin from the Oxford Glycobiology Institute characterising a collection of proteins, which modulate the effector function of antibodies. Both of these projects utilised multiple biophysical techniques including X-ray crystallography, SAXS, molecular dynamics and NMR.

Prior to her work in the Zitzmann lab, Emma gained a Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Throughout her studies, she worked as a summer student at AgResearch Grasslands, a New Zealand Crown Research Institute. In her final undergraduate year she worked with Prof Kurt Krause studying a key cell surface protein from Streptococcus pyogenes. After graduating, she continued as a research assistant in Prof Krause’s group carrying out structural studies on a redox protein from Trichomonas vaginalis.

When not in the lab, Emma enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Oxford University Dancesport team during her time as a DPhil student. She’s also keen on skiing, cycling and being outside in any sun she can catch here in the UK.
